Who owns the name DeLorean?

DeLorean:  What's in a name?  Photo of my backlit bumper from many years ago, when digital cameras were awful! The purpose of my previous writing was to document the history of the intellectual property of DeLorean Motor Company, but there is another issue being discussed in the community:  Who owns the name "DeLorean"?     To me, the answer is clear: the DeLorean family! It has long been associated with the man, John Z. DeLorean, who has two children (Zach and Kat).  They are his heirs and is their name as well, so they own it.  Just like with the intellectual property, I have not found any record that JZD gave permission to use his name or sold any "personality rights".  This is not a new issue. Courts have already rendered decisions in cases of other deceased celebrities.  The big examples are Elvis and, more recently, Prince.  I have no legal training, but Peter Colin, Jr does. Personality Rights Personality Rights relates that an activity that “appropria

Unlocking the mystery of DeLorean Lock Modules.

There are a lot of known issues with the DeLorean DMC-12 and so many of them are electrical in nature, like many other cars with Lucas electronics.  That old gag.. Stolen from the internet I am unsure who would get credit for the DeLorean Lock Module (DLM) design, although some boards are marked "Diamond H Controls LTD". It is fairly simple and effective for late 1970's "mass produced" electrical engineering but it leaves a lot to be desired by modern standards. The purpose was to have central locking so when either door was manually locked or unlocked, the other door would do the same. There are no lock/unlock user operated buttons or switches (like newer cars), it is all done with the mechanical lock.  Each door has a switch that connects a signal wire to ground based on the position of the door. The action of a wire going from open to ground triggers the DLM to briefly energize both door lock solenoids and move the locks in the desired direction. That is the

Let's unravel the story behind the  DeLorean Motor Company trademarks Officially unlicensed DMC water bottle Moorea beach A little bit about me for perspective I have always had a loud, unfiltered reaction to anything I see that I feel is unjust. It got me in to a lot of trouble when I was in school, but adults would sometimes tell me it would help me when I was older.  In retrospect, they had good intentions, but they were wrong.  Life would have much less drama if I could just ignore or not even recognize injustice, especially when it really has no direct impact on me. But, for better or worse (mostly worse), this is who I am.  As I tell this story, keep in mind that I can differentiate behavior from the person, simply because someone has done something "bad" does not paint them as all bad. I have come to realize that as a child my teachers, parents, and the media lied to me.  Life is not like it is in the movies, where doing the honorable thing will result in success.

The saga of DeLorean 06068 - Nissan VQ35 Engine Conversion

The man himself, posing with John Z DeLorean It’s 2022 and I’m ready to tell the story of 06068 Doing the best that I can from memory.  Even if I get some stuff wrong, I hope that it will be somewhat entertaining and interesting because I am asked about it often.  The 1990s Island Twin Turbo kit installed on stock PRV V6 It started in 1992 or 93 when I bought my 1st DeLorean.  The previous owner had installed an Island Twin Turbo kit.  At the time, I thought that was a good thing but turned out that it was not.  After a few years of driving it, I realized that there was excess pressure in the crank case, especially at higher RPM.  Twice, I had the pressure so high that the breather cap shot off the engine and dripped oil on to the hot turbo housing and ignited.  Both times, I was able to put the fire out quickly and had no damage.  It did, however, set me down the path to find the best way to have a faster than average DeLorean. I spent months researching the options. The stock PRV-6 e
